Simulation Overview

The Business Essentials Simulation: Coffee Shop Inc. is a three-level exercise designed to support the development of core competencies in strategy and management for corporate teams. Participants engage with strategic and functional decisions covering key business areas, including strategy, marketing (product, price, promotion), human resources, operations, and finance. The simulation is grounded in a framework where business choices directly impact employee and customer satisfaction, which are crucial drivers of sales and profits. Teams practice formulating and implementing a consistent strategy, reviewing their results, and adapting their plans based on performance and a changing external environment. The objective is to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, along with capabilities in business modeling and business planning, necessary for effective management and strategic leadership.

Their journey begins with a single store, where every decision—from setting prices to staffing and training—will determine if they can turn a profit and satisfy discerning customers. As their success grows, they will face increasing complexity, building their brand with decisions on ethical sourcing and vertical integration. Finally, they will face the ultimate test: transforming their single shop into a thriving global chain, managing stores in diverse markets with unique challenges. Can they navigate the changing economic landscape and fierce competition to achieve a cumulative profit of $5 million and build a coffee empire?
